CONCRETE'S ROLE IN MODERN PARKS & RECREATION DESIGN

For example, our structural landscaping work at the Esencia Sports Park included walled spectator seating, restroom and concession stand foundations, a pool basin, and colored paving in children’s play zones. The project also made use of concrete trash enclosures, fire pits, and walking paths to provide clear passage between the park’s various sports fields.
Concrete can do much of the heavy lifting when it comes to supporting and defining a park’s natural landscaping.
Retaining walls can be used to build up different levels within the terrain, and even carve out distinct zones for special uses. Water features can be contained, and aesthetic or protective barriers can be installed to corral plantings, rock formations, and other organic elements. Even the borders of the venue itself may be effectively delineated with concrete walls or other forms.
These types of installations can deter entry into or use of specific zones, as well as reduce maintenance needs by keeping certain landscaping points contained. Such efficacy shows that structural concrete can be a critical component of even basic park designs, let alone more complex and cultivated terrains.
